Trim the empty margins around your design

A free tool to trim empty margins: upload a PNG with a transparent background and it cuts away the empty transparent margin around the design, tight to the edges. It helps with any print, and with DTF it lowers the price directly. The file isn’t uploaded anywhere.

Why trimming empty margins saves money

With DTF printing the price is based on the area of the design. The transparent margin around it is area too: it doesn’t show on the garment, but you pay for it. Files exported from design software often have a big empty margin because the canvas is larger than the design itself. Sometimes it’s half the area.

The tool shows what percentage of the area it removed, so you see the difference straight away.

How it works

  • You pick a PNG or WEBP with a transparent background.
  • The tool finds the smallest rectangle that holds all the visible pixels and cuts away the rest.
  • Almost invisible leftovers (dust from soft brushes with an opacity of a few percent) are ignored, so they don’t keep the margin wide.
  • You download the trimmed PNG and upload it straight to the DTF builder or the designer.

The DTF builder has the same trim: it detects the empty margins of every uploaded file and offers to trim them with one click.

If there’s a white background around the design

The tool only cuts transparent margins. A white or colored background is part of the image as far as it’s concerned. First remove the background with background removal, then trim the margins here.

Frequently asked questions

How much can I save?

It depends on the file. The bigger the empty margin, the more. The tool shows the percentage of the area removed.

Does trimming reduce quality?

No. Only the empty pixels around the design are removed. The design itself is unchanged.

Is the file uploaded?

No. The processing runs entirely in your browser.

Does it work with JPG?

JPG has no transparency, so there’s nothing to trim. Remove the background first, then trim.

Is your file ready?

Put it on a t-shirt, hoodie or mug in the online designer and see the price straight away.
