Why JPG to PNG for printing
PNG is a lossless format: opening and saving it again doesn’t degrade the picture, unlike JPG, which compresses again every time it’s saved. PNG also supports a transparent background, which you need to print a logo on a colored garment.
WEBP is a popular format on websites, but many programs and printers don’t accept it. If you downloaded a picture as WEBP, convert it to PNG before sending it for printing.
Important: converting doesn’t add quality
The PNG will have the same pixel size and the same background as the original. If the JPG is small or blurry, the PNG will be too. Converting doesn’t remove a white background either.
- For a transparent background, use background removal.
- To check whether the file is big enough for printing, use the DPI check.
When you don’t need to convert
The online designer and the DTF builder accept PNG, JPG and SVG directly, and the DTF builder also accepts PDF. If your photo is a JPG and doesn’t need a transparent background, you can upload it directly. Converting is most useful for WEBP and AVIF, or when another service requires PNG.

Are the files uploaded?
No. The conversion runs entirely in your browser.
Why is the PNG bigger than the JPG?
PNG is lossless, so it’s usually bigger. That’s normal.
